Reception decor

Found these garlands on Once Wed...

I can see these in my home or over the arch of my tent!

also, this amazing centerpiece/chandelier piece (made out of rock candy!)...

Just lovely!

Now this centerpiece looks so fabulous and easy, the only problem is that on August 1st I'm not sure how much extra heat is really going to be appreciated. From Megan Hobson. I think I would make my own cake stand using vintage plates and maybe candle sticks.

Another gorgeous idea with floating candles in hurricanes from Rebecca Thuss.

PRETTY!

Whine less, breathe more...

I cannot wait until I own my own home so I can do things like this to it. I can only imagine my family being happier for a message like this painted onto the stairs. I might only be brave enough to do the basement though. I'll leave the rest of the house a little less kitchy. Hopefully.

Lovely, bohemian strands

I absolutely love Sophie's hair in Mamma Mia and I found the instructions!

Engagement pictures

No not my engagement pictures. I wish. Unfortunately we will not be doing our engagement photos until it is again warm out. Which in Minnesota is literally June. Part of the reason we are waiting is because we want to take them up at their family cabin, and although there would probably be some fun one's in the snow, we would rather have them be summery. I picture so many fun photos, especially the last one, where I picture us holding hands and jumping off the dock into the lake! I can't wait. I was just looking through photographer Amy Squires website and saw many cute engagement pictures I would love to emulate. Especially that last one!

In other news, I started doing facials yesterday. I will keep them up until the wedding and then decide if they are worth the $90. Yes its expensive, but they feel so good and make me feel like I just gave my face a soak in warm clouds for an hour. I'm not good with keep my money, as if you haven't already noticed...
What else is it for?!

Nerd alert

I totally just bought this skirt. Looks a little better on Serena than that little manequin girl.
For only $14.98, you can't get any better!

Found on Gossip Girl Style via instyle.com. Original from French Toast, the offical school wear store.

I love clothes sometimes a little too much.

Advice pleeeeeeeease!

Dear blog world,

Okay you few that read my blog, I need your help. We are in a pickle and I am at a loss for what to do without disappointing myself or someone else. Either way, I will be sad. I can't think of anyway that I won't. Here is our problem. My fiance works at a church, and would like to get married there (he is currently in seminary to be a Lutheran pastor). The 4 o'clock time was already taken but the 1 o'clock was still available when our reception site was so we quickly grabbed it. Now here is the problem. We want to serve dinner and have dancing into the night. I honestly didn't think it would be a problem until my mom and aunt got into the picture. They said nobody would stay that long and I am going to be disappointed when the guests all leave at 7pm. Now what fiance and I were planning was to hopefully move the wedding up 30 minutes, and when everything was said and done it would be 3pm by the time everyone was over to the reception site. We thought it would be fun to have some yard games (badmitton, bocce ball, beanbags, horeshoes, etc) and then start cocktail hour at 4pm. Then we thought dinner at 5pm (mom and aunt don't think anyone eats dinner that early) and then music for a maximum of 4 hours (we have to be quiet at 10pm). Both mom and aunt think this will never work and blah blah blah. Now I respect what aunt has to say since she does help many girls with their wedding planning, but still. I feel icky about this. Mom and aunt think the solution is to depart from the wedding and then return to the reception site at 5 or 6 to start things again. They said we should just give them ideas of stuff to do in the city in the meantime. I don't know, to me this seems strange. Please any advice would be wonderful!

Much hugs,
Mollie

My dress (update)!

I found her. She is a knockoff Melissa Sweet, actually the Melissa Sweet in the post below. Only, almost $3000 cheaper! I guess its absolutely impossible to find a picture of the actual dress online, but it is literally identical to the Melissa Sweet. Yaaaaaaaaay! It feels so nice to actually check something off the list (well, I will on Thursday when I get paid). I will be paying for it right then and there, which also feels aaaaaaaamazzzzzing.

We met with our florist today. I guess flowers don't often come in peach. Who knew? We also quickly blew our budget. Shoot. Well, I saved $1700 on my dress, so $300 is not too big of a deal.

Here is the best picture of what my dress looks like that I could find. By Melissa Sweet. Mine is by Marisa. Identical dresses. I'm thinking a Mantilla butt-length veil (haha what else is that called?).

My dress!

Here is one option...and the top runner right now. Plus, its less expensive than the other one! It doesn't look too special on the model, but its amazing on me (if I do say so myself, haha).

This one by Melissa Sweet is very similar but has an asymmetrical line on the thighs with a pretty flower on the side, instead of the symmetical one of Lea-Ann Belter.

The funny thing is these were not the dresses I was interested in when looking before. Funny how that works, eh? I always thought I wanted something more feminine and girly, not so womanly. Anyways, I'm super excited to start nailing down the dress, although I am still going to one more place on Monday. Is that bad? Its just so much fun! Plus, what if I find something even better?

Fun bridesmaid idea.

I just thought of a great way to ask bridesmaids...I still need to think up a cute poem, but I don't think it would be too hard.

To buy:

-cute apron

-mini champagne bottle

-vintage hankerchief

I would tell them how they have and I hope they will always be there to have fun and enjoy life with (champagne) or cry with (hankie) will you be my [brides]maid (apron)?

Obviously I would make it better than how I worded it...if only Antho's aprons wern't so expensive...

How cute is this?

PS-I will not be doing this, mearly because I already asked two and the other three already know they are going to be bridesmaids, I just haven't officially 'asked' them. But fun nonetheless!

Super 8mm film, for rent!

I've been looking for a way to get a beautiful video of our day without it costing thousands of dollars, and so far I have either found what I love for a lot or not at all what I want for still enough. Then today I found this amazing creation by Layer Cake Films. They rent you an 8mm film camera, you have someone use it throughout the day and then send it back to them for editing! Sounds brilliant right? Its still expensive, don't get me wrong, but its not crazy. I'm thinking about paying for it myself. That way its not in the stinking budget. Although lately I feel like I keep saying that. "I'll just pay for that". I have guilt about making my parents spend so much money. I tell ya. It sucks.

Wanna know what super 8mm film is? Click here!

PS-This guy in my triage booth smells like McDonalds. I should know, I worked there when I was 14.

Shutup.

PPS-For those that don't know, I've blossomed into an ER nurse.

Checklists, done, undone, rings, and feathers. Meant to be touched, just like you.

Wow...I can't believe how long its been since I've blogged last.

It's weird, now that I'm engaged and have a real budget, I feel bad that my parents have to pay so much, and planning isn't as fun as it was. I have a lot of guilt...
So although I haven't had nearly as much beautiful inspirational pictures to post, I have made a lot of headway in certain aspects. We have appointments in the next month for catering (we actually had one already but I was less than impressed), possible cupcakes (!), I have two appointments for dress shopping the week of Thanksgiving, flower consultation, and an appointment with the rental company. Whew! I also got the number of the girl who's wedding is the day after ours, so if things work out we could hopefully split the estimated $3000 cost of rentals. Oh and I also submitted our announcement to four newspapers, each of our hometown papers and the two major city papers.

Although I can't feel too good, on my list now are some overdue things, plus its not like we have anything officially booked anything else besides our two main sites.
-I want to ask my bridesmaids in fun/creative ways.
-We still need to get the list of guests from Mark's side...it is very soon going to be 200 people, not what we were hoping for at all!
-Insure the engagement ring.
-Cheap friend DJ vs. expensive awesomely reviewed band.
-Do we need to start registering?

Mark's parents are also planning a small engagement party for us the day after Thanksgiving with some added relatives on each side. I'm super excited for that! I think that calls for a wardrobe update...don't you?

So that's why I haven't been posting, because its all boring stuff, nothing fun or pretty.

Until today that is! Two etsy sellers with some promising items.

The first I think would be a really cute way to ask my bridesmaids, which could solve at least one thing on my checklist. The are simple hammered silver rings that you can engrave with whatever you want. I'm not sure I know what I'm going to say exactly yet. Something simple like, "will you be my bridesmaid?" or something beautifully written and meaningful. From the etsy shop of Delias Thompson.

The other store, Moth Love, is absolutely breathtaking! Here is what she says on her website:
"Hand plucked feathers sustain my creative hand. This bird has nourished my body, now mind…now yours. Leather, bi product, sustain. Moth Love creates from your waste. Heavy Toxins don’t belong to your hide, nor mine. Vegetable tanned scraps of leather replace my need. Landfills Waste not, want not...Moth Love is meant to be touched, just like you." Cute and so amazingly beautiful, right?

That from this? Not so simple.

Garden/bright green, white, weathered wood.

This inspiration board by Snippet & Ink has many spot on components.

Especially those green bridsmaid dresses with those amazingly beautiful bouquets and the mismatched vases holding centerpiece flowers for the table! Absolutely what I am looking for. Absolutely.

---
Peach, ivory, grey (I would probably go more charcoal), pale green.

Antoher inspiration board by the talented Snippet & Ink.

Look at all those great ideas! PERFECT peach colored peonies (right? I'm bad with flowers), a great table set-up, cake is just right (not too much 'stuff', but just something simple and pretty), and lavender insect repelent (probably necessary).

---

Ahhh! Does anyone else struggle with putting all these amazing images in your head or on the internet into actual elements in your wedding? It seems so non tangible and expensive.

Polaroid Progress

I think I found the one!

Photographer :)

I realized, especially after seeing differences in photos on other wedding blogs, that photography (and also videography) for the day is very important to me. I love pictures and I want to be able to pull them out and smile when I think about all the people we love coming together to celebrate with us. Her name is Ai Ling and from what I can tell her style is exactly what I am looking for. Real!!! It is very obvious she is very talented especially when looking at her non-wedding work. It almost brings a tear to my eye; the emotion, movement, and drama that she captures in her work. We are meeting on Friday to look at more of her portfolio and discuss everything. Plus, plus, plus, she is super reasonable in price and lives in Minnesota. Yaaaaaaaaaaay!!
Here is just A LOT of photos from her portfolio that I love (because I can). All photos by Ai Ling Photography. Enjoy!
